About Us
Established in 2002, the American Foundation for Toronto Public Library (AFTPL) promotes and supports public libraries and library programs and services, including:
- Helping public libraries build, strengthen and diversify their collections, such as the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection, the Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation and Fantasy and the Osborne Collection of Early Children's Books at the Toronto Public Library;
- Promoting reading and public library programs that encourage all segments of the general public to read;
- Supporting children's reading programs, mobile library programs and other services provided by public libraries;
- Supporting programs that provide members of the general public with electronic access to library reference materials;
- Supporting literacy programs offered by public libraries.
The Board of Directors of AFTPL will determine how AFTPL's assets, including any gifts that it receives, will be distributed to public libraries or otherwise used to best further AFTPL's purpose.
AFTPL is a New York non-profit corporation, is an organization described in Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
